  • Made from SFI certified sustainable red cedar.

  • There is no need to paint anything (painted hives trap moisture), but we do recommend finishing the exterior with one of our all-natural finishing oils, and you may want to paint the top of the roof planks, since they receive the most exposure to the elements.

  • Comes with a screened floor assembly for help with varroa mite reduction and monitoring.

  • The 1cm x 6cm entrance (narrower than shown) helps the colony protect the hive against robbers and doesn't require a mouse-guard in winter.

  • Fiberglass screen is provided to separate the quilt and top hive body, helping to minimize the propolising of the natural canvas duck quilt bottom.

  • Includes two hive bodies to start and is easily expanded by adding more hive bodies.

  • Available accessories include a sticky board, hivetop feeder, bee escape board and more!

  • Replacement top bars are available.

  • Cedar sawdust quilt filler material is included.

  • We do not recommend using hives with “viewing windows”. Please read this page to learn more.

  • If you wish to assemble the hive yourself, please read the assembly instructions before you order.

  • If you purchase an assembled hive with top bars, you can choose to have us prep and install those top bars for you so that the hive is bee-ready when you receive it. Otherwise, you’ll need to prep and install the V-shaped top bars. Easy to follow written instructions can be found here and a very helpful video can be seen by clicking here.

  • If you purchase an assembled hive with frames and metal frame rests, you can choose to have us assemble those frames for you so that the hive is bee-ready (except for the waxed guides or foundation) when you receive it. If you choose to assemble the frames yourself, easy to follow written instructions can be found here and a very helpful video can be seen by clicking here.

Tip: If you are using top bars only (not frames) you can make your hive more manageable by applying Tung oil to the top side of each top bar. Review the written instructions to learn more, as this is not discussed in the video.

NOTE: “Unavailable” does not mean the hive you’ve chosen is sold out; it means that we do not offer a hive with the options you have chosen. For example, if you want a copper roof and/or viewing windows, you must select “Assembled”.
